Corporate Contribution Program
The Corporate Contribution Program (CCP) provides companies in Japan with a structured way to support the educational expenses of expatriate employees’ children through a corporate scholarship arrangement.
For families relocating to or living in Japan, international school fees are often an important part of a company’s expatriate support package. The CCP may offer a more tax-efficient alternative to paying or reimbursing tuition and school-related fees directly as employee income.
At Horizon Japan International School, we welcome conversations with families, HR teams, relocation teams, and corporate representatives who would like to understand whether the CCP may be suitable for their situation.
How the CCP Process Works
1. Parent or company inquiry
-
A parent, HR representative, relocation manager, or company contact submits the CCP Information Request Form.
2. Initial review
-
HJIS reviews the student’s enrollment status, admission stage, company information, and basic eligibility details.
3. Company discussion
-
HJIS provides the company or parent with further information about the program, contribution structure, and next steps.
4. Agreement and scholarship process
-
If the company decides to participate and all requirements are met, the company and school proceed with the required agreement. Corporate scholarships are then arranged according to the program structure.

What Is the Corporate Contribution Program?
The Corporate Contribution Program is a corporate scholarship framework used by eligible international schools in Japan.
Instead of a company paying tuition directly to a parent as a taxable benefit, the company may enter into an agreement with the school and make a corporate contribution. These contributions are used to fund special corporate scholarships for the dependent children of the company’s eligible employees.
This arrangement may help companies support international education for expatriate families while reducing the additional tax burden that can arise when school fees are treated as employee income.
Participation is subject to eligibility, school approval, company approval, and applicable tax guidance.

Why Companies
Consider the CCP?
For companies with international employees in Japan, education support can be an important part of relocation, retention, and family support.
The CCP may help companies:
-
Support expatriate families with school fee arrangements
-
Reduce the gross-up tax impact often associated with education benefits
-
Provide a clearer structure for school fee support
-
Contribute directly to the continued development of international education
-
Strengthen their relationship with the school community
Each company’s tax situation is different. Companies should consult their own tax advisors before making a decision.

Who May Be Eligible?
The CCP is generally intended for companies or organizations that support the educational expenses of eligible foreign employees’ dependent children.
Participation may be possible when:
The parent is employed by a company or organization in Japan
-
The company is responsible for supporting the child’s international school education
-
The student is applying to or already enrolled at HJIS
-
The arrangement is approved by the company and the school
-
The case meets the applicable tax and program requirements
The CCP may not be available in some cases, including parents employed by government bodies, embassies, consulates, or parents who are fully self-employed or majority shareholders of their company.
Final eligibility must be confirmed case by case.

Can Families Join After Paying School Fees?

In many CCP arrangements, participation may be considered even after school fees have already been paid, depending on the timing, enrollment status, and approval process.
Families who have already paid tuition or fees should still contact HJIS to ask whether participation may be possible. Any adjustment or refund would depend on the final agreement and program requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the CCP the same as a tuition discount?
No. The CCP is not a tuition discount. It is a corporate scholarship arrangement where an eligible company contributes to the school under a specific agreement.
Can individual parents apply directly?
Parents may submit an information request, but participation requires the involvement and approval of the parent’s employer.
Does the child need to be enrolled at HJIS already?
Not necessarily. Families may inquire while applying, after admission, or after enrollment. The timing will affect what options may be available.
Can one company participate for only one student?
In many CCP arrangements, participation may be possible even for one eligible student. HJIS will confirm details case by case.
Can embassies or government offices participate?
The CCP is generally not available to government bodies, embassies, consulates, or similar organizations. Please contact HJIS for case-specific guidance.
Who should my company contact?
Your company’s HR, finance, tax, or relocation representative may contact HJIS directly through the CCP Information Request Form.
Is tax advice provided by HJIS?
No. HJIS can explain the school’s process, but companies and families should seek independent tax advice.
