THE HJIS STORY
HJIS is a Preschool through Grade 12 co-educational international school established in 2003, located along the portside waterfront in Yokohama’s central coast. At HJIS, we offer a values-driven community experience influenced by the distinctive global and diverse culture of Yokohama.
Premised on a vision of education by which we discover the world and contribute to its transformation, HJIS aims to prepare students for success beyond school as lifelong learners, to foster their passion for learning and achievement. Culminating with the IB Diploma Programme and instilling international-mindedness, global citizenship, and intercultural understanding.

An IB World School
Horizon Japan International School is an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, authorized to offer the PYP, MYP and DP Programmes. IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to a high quality, challenging, international education that HJIS believes is important for our students.
At HJIS, we teach students to become more independent as they explore the world on their own and discover how to express themselves. They also begin to understand how their choices and actions influence outcomes. It is obvious that making meaningful choices is an essential part of children’s cognitive development and personal confidence, which grows as they think through choices that are presented to them.
