HJIS Athletics

Building teamwork, character, and school spirit through sport.

At Horizon Japan International School, athletics is an important part of helping students grow as confident, resilient, and well-rounded individuals. Through competitive teams, local partnerships, and opportunities to participate in regional and international tournaments, our student-athletes develop discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and a strong sense of school pride. Our athletics program continues to expand each year, offering students the chance to challenge themselves, represent Horizon, and celebrate the spirit of healthy competition.

Futsal

HJIS offers Futsal opportunities across PYP, Middle School, and High School for both boys and girls. Our teams participate annually in the ISTAA League, along with local friendly games that strengthen teamwork, discipline, and competitive experience.

In May 2025, Horizon hosted its first-ever PYP Coed Futsal Event with the participation of five schools, a milestone that helped promote sportsmanship and community engagement. The next event is scheduled for March 2026, continuing our commitment to providing meaningful competition opportunities for younger athletes.

To keep the enthusiasm for the sport alive within our school community, Horizon also organizes interclass Futsal tournaments, encouraging active participation and school spirit across grade levels.

This year also marks an exciting achievement as our Middle School Futsal Team will represent Horizon for the first time at the International Bangkok Futsal Tournament in March 2026.

Basketball

Basketball at Horizon includes Middle School and High School Boys’ and Girls’ Teams, with all teams competing in the ISTAA League each year. Through regular training and league play, our student-athletes develop fundamental skills, strategic thinking, and strong sportsmanship. The program continues to grow, offering students meaningful pathways in both competitive and developmental basketball.

Volleyball

Our Middle School and High School Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball Teams proudly represent HJIS in the annual ISTAA League, demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and commitment on the court.
For the first time in school history, our volleyball teams will travel to Hokkaido in February 2026 to participate in a domestic tournament—an exciting new chapter for Horizon Volleyball and a valuable competitive experience for our athletes.

Badminton

HJIS Badminton offers opportunities for both Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles teams to compete actively throughout the year. Our athletes participate in the ISTAA competitions, gaining valuable match experience while developing agility, precision, and sportsmanship. In addition to league play, our teams regularly engage in local school scrimmage games, providing students with consistent practice, friendly competition, and opportunities to grow as confident badminton players.
