Early Learning Centre

The Early Learning Centre (ELC) is for children of ages two and a half through five. We recognize that all children are entitled to the best start in life and have the support to achieve their potential. A child’s experience has a vital impact on his/her future life chances, so we do our best to provide them with a safe, happy and secure learning environment.

  • Each child is unique
We believe every child brings qualities from birth that can all be directed in a positive and acceptable direction. Our commitment focuses around development, inclusion, safety and well-being.
  • Positive relationships
Children learn to be strong and independent in positive relationships with people. Our commitment focuses around respect, supporting learning and cooperation with parents.
  • Supportive environment
Environment plays a significant role in supporting and extending a child’s development and learning. Our commitment is focused around observation, assessment and planning; individual support; the learning environment; and in the wider context – transitions, continuity, and multi-agency working.
  • Enhanced learning and development
We are aware that children have their own strategies and learning pace, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and connected to each other.

Play features strongly in the programme. Children learn naturally through guided-play so that they can explore, ask questions, invent, construct and solve problems. The learning experiences provided are designed to promote the use of language early concepts of numbers and fine and gross motor skills. The programme provides opportunities and time for the child to explore in a guided play environment with a variety of experiences, materials and equipment to choose from. These activities enhance the children’s love of learning and stimulate their natural curiosity and desire to explore. The children are taught by experienced teachers and are supported by teacher assistants who have a sound knowledge of early childhood development. The programme and delivery are flexible and undergo ongoing assessment to meet the needs of the children.

After School Programs (ASP)

HJIS is also proud of the provision of after school activities for its students. The objective of the ASP is to give the students from Age 3 and up the opportunity to work on what they cannot do in the regular class. They can socialize and relax, through these extracurricular activities, guided by the members of our faculty as well as those from the larger community.
We are currently running 27 ASPs each week. Any nominal additional cost is to cover materials used in an activity. Some examples of the current and past ASPs are:

  • Dance
  • Yoga
  • Cooking
  • Origami
  • Karaoke
  • Basketball
  • Fun Maths
  • Gym Games
