Strong ICT integration in HJIS The ICT vision is integrated into the whole school plan. There is key evidence of a strong ICT Culture in our school. We recognize that ICT can extend our pupils learning beyond the boundaries of the classroom. The school policy outlines the rationale for ICT in learning and teaching and recognizes its distinctive contribution to learning and teaching. In terms of teaching and learning, our policy plans for progression of ICT usage from class to class. HJIS provides at least two student and one teacher computers in each classroom as well as a well designed computer lab. There is an appropriate selection of digital devices available for use that reflects the context of our school (for example a data projector is available). There is a computer network available for educational purposes. There is Internet access available throughout the school via 'The Schools Broadband Network'. Teachers plan for ICT integration in their lessons and classroom activities and to provide learning opportunities that support cross curricular activities. The Internet is used as a learning resource throughout the school. We recognize the potential of using ICT as a means of communication between pupils, parents and staff. Essential to modern life A sound grasp of information and communication technology (ICT) is essential in modern society. It gives pupils the skills and understanding needed to use technology effectively, every day and in the world of work ahead. Information and communication technology teaches pupils how to find information appropriate to a task and to judge the accuracy and reliability of what they find. They learn to develop words and numbers, not just into reports, presentations and spreadsheets but also into information systems and computer models. IT teaching offers opportunities for children to:
