Tuition and Fee

Fees Policy
Fees are fixed for the school year September 2018 to June 2019. They are reviewed annually by the school board and any changes to the school fees for the next school year is announced before the end of the preceding academic year.
At HJIS, the school fees consist of an application fee, enrollment fee, fee for IBDP (for Grade 11 and Grade 12), building fund, tuition and maintenance fee. All fees should be remitted in Japanese Yen.

  • EAL Fee is required if a student’s English level is significantly below their grade level.
  • Sibling Discounts will be applied to all divisions including ELC starting from 2019-2020 school year.

Application Fee (one-time fee)

Application Fee is due upon submission of each student’s application. The application fee is non-refundable.

Enrollment Fee (one-time fee)

The enrollment fee is payable within one month from the confirmation of the student’s admission to HJIS.

Building Fund (one-time fee)

The building fund is payable within one month from the confirmation of the student’s admission to HJIS.

Maintenance Fee (annual)

The maintenance fee is per year and payable in three installments.

Fee for IBDP/AS&A Levels

The students of Horizon’s Grades 11 and 12 who opt for either the IB Diploma Programme or Cambridge International Examinations AS&A Levels are required to pay ¥ 150,000 for each year of their education.

Tuition (annual)

The tuition is per year payable in three installments.


The school uniform is compulsory for all grades. The uniforms can be ordered throughout the year through the school secretary. The overall cost depends on the number of items ordered.

Payment of Tuition

Tuition can be paid in three installments.

  • Fall Term Payment Due Date: July 20
  • Winter Term Payment Due Date: November 20
  • Spring Term Payment Due Date: February 20

Refund of Fees

No refund of tuition fees, in part or in whole for a term will be granted, except in the case where HJIS does not grant admission or when a student does not attend school at all during the term. However, in case of complete absence, an appropriate notification from the parent is required before the term starts. Please note that application, enrollment, building fund and maintenance fees are not refundable even in the case of complete absence.

To better meet the educational needs of the international community in Japan, Horizon Japan International School (HJIS) can offer a Corporate Contribution Plan to companies with expatriate employees.
