Preschool 3-4
- Morning Meeting
Students greet their peers, do a calendar activity, talk about the day's activities, sing songs, and have sharing time.
- Topic Exploration
Students will participate in a variety of activities relating to their current topic. Activities generally include a combination of various subjects, such as math, science, cooking, language arts, and/or arts/crafts.
- Arts & Crafts
Students develop fine motor skills, creativity, and exploration through both guided and free art activities.
- Park/PE
This is a time when students are working on developing their gross motor skills through both guided and free play.
- Music
Although music activities occur on a daily basis, there is additional allotted time each week for students to explore instruments, learn rhythm, and express themselves creatively through music.
- Journals
Students draw a picture about the topic of their choice and share the picture with the teacher. As the students progress, they are encouraged to add words and/or sounds to their pictures if they have an interest in doing so.
- Centres
Centres invite children to direct their own play. Children are less likely to have conflicts when they are playing and investigating their own interests and constructing knowledge in ways that are meaningful to them. As themes change throughout the year, so will the materials that are offered in each area. As the children progress, materials are increased, providing a well-balanced and challenging curriculum. In this environment, children are able to grow naturally, strengthening important social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills. Teachers encourage children to try new centres if they seem to favour certain areas.
- Story Time
Every day we read one or more books. Discussion activities may also take place during this time.
- Quiet/Nap Time
In order for children to centre themselves and process the activities of the day, all children are required to rest quietly for 15 minutes. Children who do not nap may join friends after their rest to work/play quietly in the classroom interest centres or in structured activities provided by the teacher and/or assistant.
- Snack Time
This is a time when students are learning positive social interactions as well as manners.
- Alphabet or Educational Games
This is a time to work on specific academic goals through the use of hands-on activities or games.
- Drama
Students participate in both structured and free activities that allow them to explore different characters and/or environments.
- Character Education and Afternoon Meeting
Students participate in activities and discussions related to the current school-wide character education topic. Students also review and/or talk about past or upcoming activities as well as sing songs before they go home.
