Along with planning and resourcing, assessment appears as a key element of education. At HJIS, use a variety of assessment techniques to observe and improve student progress depending on the levels.
Early Learning Centre
HJIS ELC focus on ongoing assessment of outcomes for all key learning areas using checklists based on UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Standards.
Primary School KS1
KS1 focus their assessment on observation during learning activities, but also begin to incorporate more formal test situations, ranging from short quizzes to test papers designed to not only test a learning outcome, but also train the students in test styles and strategies.
Primary School KS2
While KS2 continue to be observed for progress during learning activities, they are increasingly involved in set assessment tasks ranging from quizzes to test papers of varying length.
- Formal Test Papers
Student sit formal written tests at the end of every month for ELA, Mathematics and Science.
- Cambridge Primary Progression Tests
The Cambridge Primary Progression Tests (CPP) are a series of tests, for KS2, used within our school to monitor progress of individuals and classes of students. They can also be used to provide diagnostic feedback to inform further teaching and learning, or for reporting purposes. CPP tests measure student, class and school performance. Students sit the CPPT during KS2 at the end of each year.
- Cambridge Primary Achievement Test
The Cambridge Primary Achievement Test (CPA) provides a summative measure of the student’s learning during the primary phase and students sit the CPA test at the end of their final year of primary schooling.
- International Schools Assessment
Our students sit the International Schools Assessment (ISA) test at the end of each year during KS2. This gives us an opportunity to see where we are at in comparison with other international schools around the world.
Middle School KS3
In addition to the classical exams and ISA test, KS3 students also have access to the following exams.
- Cambridge Checkpoint Test
By the end of KS3, students sit the Cambridge Checkpoint tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science at two sessions during the last year. The tests cover all major areas of learning required in the Middle School.
- IGCSE
International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge IGCSE is taken by students of ages of ages 14 to 16, and it prepares students for further academics, including progression to A Level, AS Level study, [Cambridge Pre-U] and the IB Diploma Programme. Cambridge IGCSEs are recognised by academic institutions and employers around the world.
