A very warm welcome to the Horizon Japan International School website. In a world which is continuously becoming even more interconnected and globalized, new skills are required to be a successful global citizen. The contemporary world requires our students to have a broader range of sophistication and skills than it has ever required before. These skills include communication, collaboration, critical thinking, risk-taking, intercultural awareness, international-mindedness and life-long learning. We hope you will get a sense of how HJIS is a great place to learn and develop these essential skills.
Horizon is a remarkable learning environment in which individuals from over 33 nationalities teach, learn and grow every single day. Our students are given unique opportunities to explore and help them prosper as they progress. Our school provides an education that combines high academic standards with a truly international personal perspective and good character.
Horizon is an IB World School implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes; hence you will be provided with a seamless continuum of programs for all of our students in PreS ～12. The Curricula provide a rigorous comprehensive educational programme preparing our students for the next phase of their education and by equipping them with required skills and qualifications to be fruitful members of their own communities. This challenging education takes place in an ideal learning environment at on both our Yokohama and the Sendai Campuses. On these campuses, the students can focus on their academics and develop the strategies for making a real difference in the lives of their own and their communities.
Horizon not only benefits from the enormous cultural and technological resources of Japan, but also from the relationships the school has with the local and the international communities. The high standards of Horizon are acknowledged by the Kanagawa and Miyagi Prefectural Governments as well as ECIS (Educational Collaborative for International Schools), WASC (The Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and CIS (Council of International Schools).
