Principal’s Newsletter – Term 2

Dear Horizon Community,

 

Time passes by fast! It’s hard to believe that we are in the last term of this academic year. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our Horizon staff for the outstanding work they do each and every day. The dedication to their students is remarkable. I would also like to thank our wonderful students for their great effort in term 2 and of course our parents for their continued support. We had quite a few events in term 2; Literacy Week, Art Exhibition, Science and Technology Fair, Drizon Day and Talent Quest. Those events wouldn’t happen without the dedication and hard work of the event committees, so a special thanks to those committee members as well.

 

Now for some sad news. Unfortunately -for us- Mr. Doymaz has been transferred to the Sendai Campus and will not be with us from this term on. The good thing though is that he is still a member of our community. We would like to thank him for his service to the Yokohama Campus. He will be surely missed!

His responsibilities have been distributed among the division coordinators. You probably know these energetic team members already, but just in case, you can find their info below. Please do keep note of their email addresses as they will be the main people to respond to your inquiries.

Mr. Chris has recently been appointed as the Lower Secondary Coordinator (G6-G10) and Mr. Ozzie as the new college counselor. I wish both of them the best of luck with their new roles. I also would like welcome two new staff members Mr. Tyler, the PSPE teacher and Ms. Emma, ELC team teacher to the Horizon Family!

 

Website: I would like to draw your attention to our school website www.horizon.ac.jp which was recently renewed. It is now mobile friendly and easier to navigate. Please do let us know your feedback via itsupport@horizon.ac.jp to make it better.

 

Calendar: 2018-2019 Academic calendar is ready to be viewed on the calendar section of the site.

The spring break is kept a week longer so that we have adequate time to move the necessary items to the new campus. Therefore the academic year ends a week later compared to this year.

 

Fees: Fees for the academic year of 2018-2019 will not change. The board is still discussing fee adjustment for the new campus so there is no decision yet. Once the decision is made we will inform you (hopefully this month – latest in May).

 

New Campus: Construction has started in February and is going forward according to the plan. You can check the progress here on this page. We are looking forward to moving to our new home!

 

Bus Location Survey: We are making plans for a smooth transition to the new campus and we need your help to decide the bus stops. Please let us know which stations we should provide bus service by filling out this form.
